Pickup trucks can have very different rear-seat layouts depending on cab configuration, model year and trim. A product described simply as 'truck compatible' still needs to be checked against the actual rear seating area.
Identify your cab and rear-bench layout
Crew-cab, extended-cab and other configurations can differ substantially in rear-seat depth and footwell space. Measure the vehicle you own rather than relying on a body-style label.
Measure rear-seat width
Record the usable bench width between the door-side edges where the extender will sit.
Measure both footwell gaps
Set both front seats for normal driving and measure the gap between the rear bench and each front seatback. Driver and passenger positions may create different dimensions.
Check folding-seat hardware
If the rear bench folds or lifts, make sure hinges, latches and seat geometry do not prevent the extender from sitting as intended.
Check headrests and straps
Confirm that the product's fastening method is compatible with your truck's headrest arrangement.
Check the doors
Rear-door openings and trim can affect side-panel fit. Nothing should prevent the door from closing normally.
Keep restraint points accessible
Plan the extender and restraint together. Do not cover a buckle or anchor you need for your dog's travel setup.
